Phase I Study Results
Phase I of the Fort Carson Regional Growth Plan estimated that Fort Carson will grow from 12,600 troops in 2006 to approximately 26,000 by 2013. Some of these soldiers and their family members have already begun to arrive, but the majority will arrive by the end of 2011.
Additionally, the influx of soldiers moving to Fort Carson does not necessarily reflect the actual number of troops living in the area. At any given time, thousands of soldiers may be deployed because of training or global events.
While most troops should be stationed at the Mountain Post by 2011, it can be difficult to forecast the exact timing of when these new residents will arrive due to the dynamic nature of deployment schedules. PPACG is currently working on Phase Two of the study to formulate more accurate data on the number of projected troops and the actual timing of their arrival.
It also remains challenging to determine the exact number of family members who will relocate to the region. It is currently unclear how factors such as deployments or economic conditions may influence whether a soldier’s family decides to relocate with the soldier. The second phase of the Growth Plan will provide more detailed demographics on soldiers’ families to better estimate how many will come and when they will relocate.
