Effectively responding to troop growth and the needs of incoming soldiers will positively affect quality of life for Fort Carson families and the region as a whole. The Fort Carson Regional Growth Plan will make recommendations on how to maintain the overall quality of life for incoming troops and families, as well as for the surrounding communities. Sustainability is a key component of this quality of life.
As part of the Phase Two Growth Plan, the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments (PPACG) is developing a Sustainability Action Plan for Economic Development. The Action Plan will consider the relationship between the troop increase, Fort Carson’s sustainability initiatives and opportunities for economic development. The idea is that these three elements can support and complement each other, creating opportunity for economic growth in the region.
At its core, the Action Plan will do three things:
- Vision – Establish an overarching vision for the four-county region for how local governments and the private and non-profit sectors can benefit from the growth of Fort Carson’s sustainability efforts.
- Plan – Develop a long-term action plan to achieve the vision.
- Measures of Success – Identify appropriate evaluation measures to determine progress toward success and trigger-points for modifying the plan/vision.
A Sustainability Partnership Group comprised of representatives from the sustainability sector meets regularly to help inform this analysis.
