SUMMARY
During its monthly meetings since the July 2024 meeting, the Legislative Committee has discussed the 2025 state legislative themes and priorities. The committee recommended the 2025 state legislative themes and priorities at its Nov. 4, 2024, meeting, for approval by the Board of Directors.
The 2025 themes and priorities are reorganized from previous years, but are largely the same as 2024 with one change. The Colorado General Assembly passed a senior homestead tax emption during the 2024 session, which had been a legislative priority for the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments for several years. Because it was passed and signed, that priority has been removed for 2025.
BACKGROUND
During the Colorado Legislative Session, the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments Legislative Committee tracks legislation that may potentially impact our programs and members. The committee begins meeting before the session begins to prepare the legislative themes for the upcoming year.
The themes are reviewed and approved by the Board before being handed out to state lawmakers. This handout helps provide our legislators information about PPACG’s advocacy goals and ways to connect directly with the committee. The legislative themes are being brought to the Board for approval ahead of a potential legislative roundtable.
PROPOSED MOTION
Approve the 2025 state legislative themes and priorities.
ALTERNATIVES
The Board has the following alternatives to consider:
- Approve the themes with changes.
- Refer the themes back to the Legislative Committee
- Disapprove the themes.
