The Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments serves as the Area Agency on Aging for El Paso, Park and Teller counties and provides programs and services for older adults (60 and over) and their caregivers. The primary goal is to help older people live independently in their own homes. Funding for services comes through the federal Older Americans Act and the State of Colorado. A person must be 60 years of age or older to be eligible for a service provided by the Older Americans Act. Some exceptions apply for specific cases. There is no fee charged for services and no one is denied services because of an inability to pay. Donations, however, are encouraged, and for most programs there is a recommended contribution rate. Income from donations provides an important source of ongoing funds to continue the services.
