AREA AGENCY ON AGING REGIONAL ADVISORY COUNCIL
MEETING MINUTES
August 22, 2024, 10:00 a.m.

AGENDA ITEM 1: CALL TO ORDER / ESTABLISH A QUORUM / INTRODUCTIONS

  1. Chair Debi Levin-Stankevich called the meeting to order at 10:03 a.m. A quorum was present.

AGENDA ITEM 2: AGENDA APPROVAL

  1. Chair Debi Levin-Stankevich requested an agenda amendment to include a presentation by Dali Moncada.
  2. Gordon motioned to approve the meeting agenda with the amendment and Laura Kronick seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

AGENDA ITEM 3: CONSENT ITEMS

These items will be acted upon as a whole, unless they are called up for discussion by a council member or a citizen wishing to address the council.

  1. Approval of the minutes from the July 24, 2024 meeting. Laura Kronick motioned to approve and Gordon Rick seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

AGENDA ITEM 4: PUBLIC COMMENTS

Public comment can be made before or during the meeting. Public comment during the meeting is limited to three minutes and can be done at the meeting location or remotely by using the posted Microsoft Teams link. Individuals are encouraged to notify the meeting organizer at ppacg@ppacg.org before the start of the meeting with the agenda item they would like to comment on. Public comments can be submitted before the meeting via email to ppacg@ppacg.org for distribution to committee members.

AGENDA ITEM 6: INFORMATION ITEMS

  1. Presentations
    1. Dali Moncada, Volunteer Program Manager, presented on PPAAA’s new volunteer program. This program was part of the goals identified in the Four Year Plan.
  2. Membership Subcommittee
    1. The RAC is still in need of a vice chair.
  3. Strategic Review Subcommittee
    1. No updates.
  4. TRS Subcommittee RFP dates and meetings
    1. Melissa Marts shared that there have been some updates regarding carryover funds, but we have not received official notice of fund amounts.
    2. Melody Hanna shared that PPAAA is moving forward with contracts with UCCS and City of Colorado Springs Fire Department. PPAAA is exploring a voucher program with Carepool to include Park and Teller counties.
  5. AAA Director’s Report
    1. No updates.
  6. RAC Chair Report
    1. Chair Debi Levin-Stankevich expressed appreciation to RAC members for their time and investment.
    2. Rick Gordon volunteered to chair the TRS Subcommittee.

AGENDA ITEM 7: DISCUSSION ITEMS

  1. Updates from RAC members and meeting attendees
    1. Maria Cordova: The Independence Center is offering training on how to communicate with different disability communities. Tours available to learn about accessible spaces.
    2. Laura Kronick: Monument has a new interim town manager and is going through a reorganization.
    3. Rick Gordon: City of Fountain is undergoing budget proposal presentations.
    4. RoseMary Jaramillo: September 28th Walk to End Alzheimer’s and Virtual Caregiver Series with the VA. The Walk will be held at Memorial Park and will include 70 vendors and information; all are encouraged to attend. Melissa Marts will lead a paddleboard group at the walk. Fountain Valley Chamber is holding an annual fall festival September 2nd, 10am-3pm. More information at www.fountainvalleychamber.com.
    5. Vincent Yanik: DHS is making progress with staff retention and application processing.
    6. Laurie Wood: Silver Key Senior Services promoted transportation director to a chief position. Food pantry is working hard to distribute emergency food boxes ahead of winter season. Silver Key has a new Tri-Lakes area thrift store location.
    7. Teller Senior Coalition: working on meeting Medicare requirements for transportation services. Teller is working through budget process and received a vehicle through CDOT. Two classes scheduled through TESSA for clients.
    8. Cynthia Margiotta: PEARLS had staffing updates.

AGENDA ITEM 8: MEETING SCHEDULE

  1. Next meeting: September 26, 2024, PPAAA and Older Coloradan’s Act Celebration. In person encouraged. Hybrid option available.
  2. RAC Executive Committee Meeting – first Wednesday of each month at 11:00 a.m., via Microsoft Teams
  3. PPACG Schedule

AGENDA ITEM 9: ADJOURNMENT

Chair Debi Levin-Stankevich adjourned the meeting at 10:50 a.m.
