The 2050 Regional Transit Plan, led by Mountain Metropolitan Transit (MMT), identifies potential improvements to the transit system that respond to the current needs and expected growth between now and 2050. The goals of the plan include:
- Make transit competitive with other ways to travel throughout the region.
- Provide access to jobs, schools, medical facilities, social events, and community activities.
- Maintain or improve services for the people who need them most.
- Deploy technology to improve both agency operations and the customer experience.
- Promote environmental stewardship.
The 2050 Specialized Transportation Plan, led in partnership between MMT and Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments (PPACG), is necessary to receive federal funding for transportation programs tailored to older adults, people with disabilities, and people with lower incomes. The plan assesses the conditions and potential improvements for transit and paratransit, along with specialized transit and human services providers.
The project’s goals and objectives informed the following public involvement goals:
- Inform, educate, and raise awareness about the 2050 Regional Transit Plan and Specialized Transportation Plan, and how these plans support the larger regional planning efforts, including the 2050 LRTP.
- Provide accurate and timely information to stakeholders on the planning process and solicit their feedback at appropriate technical milestones.
- Consult with stakeholders prior to decisions to create buy-in for a well-planned regional transit system.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their needs and perceptions around transit and address any barriers or challenges to using the current transit system.
- Facilitate inclusive engagement events, considering accessibility, mobility needs, and digital engagement (508 accessibility).
- Identify opportunities for partnership and alliances with regional organizations, community partners, and transit service providers.
The 2050 Regional Transit Plan and Specialized Transportation Plan are components within the larger regional Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). Each plan will be incorporated as a chapter within the final document. PPACG leads this effort in close coordination with MMT.
